Mike Whitty & The Children of the
The Courtyard Saints is a band founded by Mike Whitty of The Thompson Brothers Band and Pale Blue Dot, and Brad "Shank" Shankwiler. The Courtyard Saints perform as an acoustic duo, trio, or full five piece rock and roll outfit. Their 2012 debut “Sunshine State” is a spirited tribute to the early days of rock and roll recorded by Grammy-nominated producer Andrijah Tokic. They enlisted the help of Micah Hulscher, (Wanda Jackson, Los Colognes) on piano, organ, and accordion , Trey McClemore, (13 Ghosts and Birmingham rock and roll legend) and Graham Fitzpenn, (Majestico and other East Nashville bands) on drums. To help capture the “live in the studio” sound of the fifties and sixties. Their influences range from the “folk gone electric” songs of Bob Dylan to the surf bands like Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys. The Courtyard Saints have a reputation along the 30A/ South Walton beaches for never phone it in live performances, with dance your ass off original songs. The 2016-2017 Courtyard Saints roster includes Mike Whitty on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica and bass, Shank on bucket, percussion and vocals, Trey McLemore on lead guitar and vocals, and John Mark Turner (Wildlife Specials, Blues Old Stand) on bass, guitar and vocals.
