The Wildlife Specials are an Americana and Rock N’ Roll band that includes John Mark Turner and Scott Crompton, along with drummer Richard Proctor (Tishamingo) and bassist Billy Garrett. With 120+ combined years of touring, recording and song writing experience between them, The Wildlife Specials are a unique assortment of talented players who met up in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
John Mark Turner and Scott Crompton found themselves reuniting as band mates since touring together in Blues Old Stand for over 20 years. Scott moved from Louisiana where he founded Blade Studios with drummer Brady Blade, and the record label Mid-City Records, before too settling in Santa Rosa Beach.
After sharing the stage and studio with the likes of Darryl Jones and Bernard Fowler of the Rolling Stones, Widespread Panic, Bob Margolin, Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Shines, Willy Green, Daniel Lanois, among many others, they both ended up in Santa Rosa Beach and decided to form The Wildlife Specials (named after a roadside food vendor in NOLA) for the 30a Songwriters Festival in 2012.
On occasion joined by Proctor and Garrett, the Wildlife Specials expand the acoustic format to a full on Americana Band.
The Wildlife Specials have a diverse set list that includes songs by other artists they have played with and revered over the years along with their own considerable library of original compositions.
