Allie Kenny

23-year-old Allie Kenny's obsession with the sophisticated pop-rock of the '60s and '70s has become the foundation for some of the freshest music emerging from today's indie scene. With a warm, pitch-perfect alto and bright Rickenbacker jangle, Kenny mines vintage influences to write and produce music in the vein of indie darlings like MJ Lenderman and Julia Jacklin. She isn't simply a revivalist; she's an adventurous songwriter, composing deceptively simple modern pop songs that lean into the harmonic and melodic sophistication of the classic pop-rock era.

While at university in Raleigh, NC, Kenny caught the ear of legendary musician and producer Chris Stamey of the dB's and The Big Star Quintet, who took her under his wing in the studio. As Stamey puts it: "Allie Kenny is the real deal... a deep bench of fresh original songs that are every bit as classic as the ‘60s and ‘70s music she loves."

Stamey recruited a lineup of high-profile guests for their sessions, including Pat Sansone of Wilco, Matthew Caws of Nada Surf, and R.E.M.'s Mike Mills. The result is Kenny's upcoming debut full-length album, Valentine Mistakes, which signals the arrival of one of indie music's brightest new talents.
