Jon Muq

Jon Muq is a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist originally from Kampala, Uganda, and now based in Austin, Texas. He grew up listening to local music and was introduced to Western music with the song "We Are the World." He first saw and held a guitar at age 19, which he felt would "give me my answers." A video of him performing on the streets of Kampala led to a job on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship, which helped him get a passport and visa to move to the U.S. in 2018.

In Austin, his music caught the attention of The Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach, who signed him to his record label, Easy Eye Sound. Auerbach produced Muq's debut album, "Flying Away," which was released in 2024. Muq’s music is a soulful blend of pop, folk, and African sounds. He writes songs that are deeply connected to real stories, and his lyrics often explore themes of resilience and hope, drawing on his life experiences. Muq has performed alongside artists like Norah Jones and Billy Joel, and he continues to devote time to charitable organizations in both the U.S. and Uganda.
