Josh Joplin Group

Having taken nearly a decade off from touring to dedicate himself full-time to parenting, Josh Joplin still managed to produce, and write award-winning films (2 features and 1 animation short.) With his daughter in college now, Josh Joplin is returning to music with, "Figure Drawing.” Geoffrey Himes of the Washington Post praised it, writing, “Joplin’s experiences, from his early days as a Dylanesque troubadour to his mid- career success as an indie-rocker, are reflected in this new recording, the broadest, deepest and most balanced of his career.”
Josh Joplin made his debut at an early age with Josh Joplin Group's album, Useful Music. It scored a #1 hit with Camera One and was produced by famed Talking Head, Jerry Harrison. The song has been featured in many television shows, including Scrubs.
In 2011, his song "Blue Skies Again" was covered by Jessica Lea Mayfield, chosen as a “Song of The Day” by iTuned and downloaded over a million times. According to Pitchfork’s review it’s, “...a sunny reassuring song with a simple infectious chorus that makes it a standout...”
Josh Joplin Group, has become a collection of musicians that have been with Josh his whole career, since his early days as a teenager in Atlanta, GA, playing the Trackside Tavern to touring the globe with everyone from A Fine Frenzy, to Ol 97’s, to Matthew Sweet, Phish, Travis and Lisa Loeb to name a few.
Joining him this time are his friend and fellow traveler for over a decade, Wes Langlois (Nashville legend, underground poet, actor - I Saw The Light, and famed studio guitarist (Buddy Miller). Wes co-wrote two songs with Joplin, Fats Kaplin (Mitzki and Jack White’s string wizard), Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris’s drummer) who has played on the last 3 albums Josh has recorded. Hannah Miller (her tunes have been featured in films like Little Women and shows like, This Is Us), as well as Rob Gal and Allen Broyles (Two of the founding members of Josh Joplin Group).
Signed to major labels for most of his career, Josh created a reputation that American Songwriter calls, “…an excellent songwriter... lyrically, his songs are a perfectly poignant observation on today's religious/ political climate. That religion and politics seem to have shifted from philosophies of love and trust to hate and shame is not a new thought, but it's all in the delivery, and Joplin delivers…”. Paste aptly put it; “…Joplin is part Armed Forces, Elvis Costello, with Woody Guthrie’s bent for storytelling, but with a voice all his own.”
