Pete Muller

Pete Muller is a problem solver. Whether writing songs for his critically acclaimed albums, pioneering quantitative approaches on Wall Street, or crafting crosswords for the New York Times and Washington Post, the hyper-talented renaissance man consistently chases deeper understanding.
Raised in New Jersey by hardworking immigrant parents, Muller excelled at Princeton University as a gifted mathematician. In New York City, he built what he modestly calls a “nerdy quantitative trading business,” though profiles in outlets from the New York Times to Forbes describe him as a trailblazer in the field. Despite his extraordinary success, Muller found himself drifting from music and meaning, and realized something needed to change.
He returned to the piano with the same intensity he’d brought to finance. After two early albums, he married, moved to California, rejoined his firm, and became a father. Still driven creatively, he released his third album, Two Truths and a Lie, in 2014. His 2019 album, Dissolve, earned praise from American Songwriter to People Magazine, leading to national tours and festival appearances from Montreux to Telluride.
On 2022’s Spaces, produced by Emmy-winning arranger Rob Mathes (Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin), Muller tackles his biggest puzzle yet: himself. The album balances head and heart in equal measure while exploring love, connection, purpose, and identity.
