The Saunders Boyz

grand-boulevard.jpg

A South Walton Native Father-Son musical duo of Balder and Rowan Saunders. Both born in the Ft. Walton General Hospital, though on different days, and inundated with a musical culture from a young age, the duo has proven to be an exciting blend of blues, bluegrass, country, and whatever music makes you dance. The father, Balder, has played mandolin since the age of 7, guitar at age 12, upright bass at age 13, and trumpet at 14, and began his career as a professional musician at 14 playing upright bass and mandolin touring the United States, and Canada. He then moved to Santa Rosa Beach in 2000 and played in numerous bands, before co-founding Dread Clampitt with guitarist Kyle Ogle in 2002, where they would tour the country for over 20 years. Saunders has demonstrated his world-class skill on the mandolin, and creative songwriting over the years, using his voice to blend the perfect amount of intellect, wit, humor, and excitement into each piece. Rowan, the son, spent his youth listening to Dread Clampitt 3 times a week at the Red Bar, so when it came time to learn the music of his childhood, it felt like second nature. Also a multi-instrumentalist, Rowan picked up the bass to build a unique sound to shake up the musical landscape of the 30A Music scene.
